María Yzuel awarded 'Commander of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise'

SPIE Past President María Josefa Yzuel has been awarded the Commander of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise, in recognition of her scientific career. 

The Order of Alfonso X the Wise (Spanish: Orden de Alfonso X el Sabio) is a Spanish civil order granted in recognition of activities in the fields of education, science, culture, higher education and research. The prize was given by the Spanish Minister of Education, Culture, and Sport, on behalf of the King. The ceremony was held 28 February at the National Library in Madrid.

Yzuel is professor emeritus of the Department of Physics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is an SPIE Fellow, served on the SPIE Board of Directors, and was President of the Society in 2009.
