Tkaczyk wins 2012 Norman Edmund Inspiration Award

Tomasz TkaczykTomasz Tkaczyk, Assistant Professor in Bioengineering at Rice University, Texas, has been awarded the 2012 Norman Edmund Inspiration Award of $10,000 in EO products.

Tkaczyk received the award for "the development of a variety of optical imaging and detection techniques targeting chemistry, applied physics, nanosciences, and advanced biomedical engineering."

Tkaczyk is an SPIE member, and serves on both its Nominating and Awards Committees.

SPIE member Quan Liu, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore was also honored with a $5,000 grant in EO products for "developing new optical biopsy methods based on optical imaging and spectroscopy."

The EO website notes, "The 'Norman Edmund Inspiration Award' honors the contributions made by Norman Edmund to advance the science of optics. The recipient of the award is chosen from the first place award recipients in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, by the Edmund Optics Board of Directors Committee, who best embodies the legacy of Mr. Edmund."
