Student chapter leader encourages others to follow optics engineering careers

Daniel Spicer, president of the SPIE Student Chapter at Three Rivers Community College (TRCC) in Preston, CT, describes his path toward the decision to pursue a career in optics and encourages other students to join him, in a recent profile interview in the Norwich (CT) Bulletin.

Spicer and Judy Donnelly, faculty advisor of the SPIE Student Chapter at TRCC and winner of the 2003 SPIE Educator Award, attended the SPIE Optics+Photonics symposium in August to accept an SPIE Education Grant and attend several student leadership activities as well as conference sessions and the exhibition.

Donnelly developed a Photonics Engineering Technology Associate of Science program at TRCC and participates in the New England Board of Higher Education's PHOTON2 project for integrating STEM education between high schools and colleges in the region.
