Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corporation brand, is launching a year-long observance of its 50th anniversary in the commerical laser industry with a celebration at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco this month.
Spectra-Physics became the first commercial laser company in 1961, less than a year after the invention of the laser, noted Dave Allen, company vice president and general manager.
Photonics West attendees are invited to help launch the celebration at the Newport booth (#1301) during the exhibition 25-27 January at Moscone Center, said Newport Global Marketing Director Kim Abair. Nobel Laureate Charles Townes will be at the booth between 11 a.m. and Noon on 25 January.
