SPIE Fellow Geoffrey Smith (University of Technology Sydney) was awarded the 2011 New South Wales Science and Engineering award for his work in sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.
The award recognized his contributions to development of green roofing systems and window and lighting technologies based on colored heat-reflective coatings that can lower the amount of daytime heat absorption.
Smith gave a keynote talk on green nanotechnology at SPIE Optics + Photonics, and is the author of more than 30 papers on that topic in the SPIE Digital Library.
