Research published by SPIE member and conference chair Vladimir Shalaev of Purdue Universitiy describes a new field called transformation optics that may enable a cloak of invisibility, ultrapowerful microscopes and computers, and other advances.
Shalaev has been chair of the conference on Plasmonics: Nanoimaging, Nanofabrication, and their Applications at SPIE Optics+Photonics (O+P) for several years, has served on program committees at O+P, Photonics West and other symposia, and has presented nearly 50 papers at SPIE events.
