SPIE Fellow Vladimir Shalaev has been ratified as the Robert and Ann Burnett Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University.
Shalaev's recognition was announced by the university's Board of Trustees on Tuesday 17 May. He has received numerous honors for his pioneering work in nonlinear metamaterials and transformation optics.
Shalaev has chaired several SPIE conferences and and served on numerous program committees including upcoming sessions on metamaterials and plasmonics at SPIE Optics + Photonics (San Diego) in August, and on nanoscale materials at SPIE Photonics West (San Francisco) in January.
He has published more than 60 papers with SPIE, and is author of three presentations on the program for Optics + Photonics and one at SPIE Optical Systems Design (Marseille) in September.
