SPIE members will deliver photonics-support message to Congress

24 March 2014

National Photonics Initiative

SPIE members are among nearly three dozen volunteers who will visit Congressional offices on Wednesday, March 26, with messages promoting support for photonics technologies and R&D, in visits organized by SPIE and other sponsors of the National Photonics Initiative (NPI).

The NPI visits are part of this year's Science-Engineering-Technology Working Group (SETWG) Congressional Visits Day (CVD). Altogether, approximately 250 scientists, engineers, and others are expected to participate in the SETWG CVD events. Members of more than two dozen scientific societies, technology institutes, companies, and other organizations have helped to organize the event and bring the volunteers to Washington, D.C.

SPIE Fellows representing the society are SPIE Vice President Robert Lieberman, SPIE President Philip Stahl, Bahaa Saleh, and SPIE Past President James Harrington.

SPIE Members participating in the NPI-sponsored visits are Robert Baker, Dale Karapanagiotides, Casey Boutwell, Mary Potasek, Zuleykhan Tomova, Cathy Chen, Hsu-Cheng Huang, and Andrew Traverso.

The NPI is an industry-driven campaign to guide photonics research and funding. More information is at http://lightourfuture.org.
