New NSF Smart Lighting center at Rensselaer is led by Schubert

E. Fred Schubert

A new Smart Lighting research center funded by the National Science Fourndation (NSF) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is headed by E. Fred Schubert, OPTO Symposium Cochair for SPIE Photonics West 2009. A goal of the center is to replace the common incandescent light bulb with next-generation lighting that is more sustainable and conducive to innovation.

Schubert is a longtime SPIE author and program committee member, and has taught a course on Light-Emitting Diodes at Photonics West and other conferences for several years. He is Wellfleet Senior Constellation Professor of Future Chips at Rensselaer.
