Dan Neal is among entrepreneur scientists honored by Sandia

SPIE Member Dan Neal is among former Sandia National Labs scientists who left the labs under the Entrepreneurial Separation to Transfer Technology program and are being honored for their success in turning innovations from Sandia into successful businesses.

Neal started WaveFront Sciences in 1966. The company, recently acquired by Abbott Labs, employs about 50 people in Albuquerque and has sold 800 eye-measurement units to resarchers and ophthalmologists around the world. Neal has published nearly 30 articles in the SPIE Digital Library, including two articles in the journal Optical Engineering, and has served on several SPIE conference  program committees.

Hong Hou, CEO of EMCORE, is also among those being honored. EMCORE produces photovoltaic technology to power satellites and fiber optics for high-speed communications. He has published 30 papers in the SPIE Digital Library, and served on the program commitee for the SPIE Photonics West conference on Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers for several years.
