UT Austin and Northwestern Student Chapter members among Optics + Photonics 'best paper' winners

SPIE Student Chapter Members were among winners of Student Best Paper Awards at SPIE Optics + Photonics last month in San Diego, California.

Winners for the Organic Photonics + Electronics Best Student Paper Awards, sponsored by Aldrich Materials Science and Polyera, were:

  • Kwon Hyeon Kim (Seoul National University), first place including a $750 prize, for "Extremely high efficiency phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes with horizontal emitting dipoles: (9183-70)
  • Cornelius Fuchs (Technische Universität Dresden), second place including a $500 prize, for "Surface plasmon polariton modification in top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes for enhanced light outcoupling" (9183-71)
  • SPIE Member Xingyu Zhang (University of Texas at Austin), third place including a $250 prize, for "Miniaturized low-power electro-optic modulator based on silicon integrated nanophotonics and organic polymers" (9191-40).

SPIE Member Vala Fathipour (Northwestern University) was honored with the first Infrared Sensors, Devices, and Applications Best Paper Award, for "Approaching high temperature photon counting with electron-injection detectors" (9220-16).
