Endowments established to honor Neckers

Two endowments honoring Douglas Neckers, McMaster Distinguished Research Professor and Executive Director of the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University, were announced at a celebration of Dr. Neckers' 70th birthday in October. Eugene Arthurs, SPIE CEO, was among those attending the celebration.

The Neckers' Scholars program will fund third and fourth year students in photochemical sciences, and the Neckers' Endowed Professorship will support a distinguished teacher/scholar in the field.

Neckers is the author of several papers for SPIE, editor of the SPIE conference proceedings New Directions in Photodynamic Therapy and SPIE Press Milestones Series volume Selected Papers on Photochemistry,and author of numerous other publicatons. Among areas of interest to his research group are the use of visible light photo-initiators synthesized to form photopolymers, and controlling polymerization in all dimensions from the surface of a developing system, with applications such as three-dimensional imaging and direct laser writing.
