Jeroen Missinne and Ghent colleagues develop flexible sensor 'skin'

01 December 2009

Jeroen Missinne and colleagues at Ghent University in Belgium have developed a flexible "skin" containing optical sensors, reports an article in New Scientist magazine. The artificial skin embedded with optical sensors could give robots additional useful information about what they are touching and handling.

Missinne is a member of SPIE. He and his research group have papers scheduled for presentation at two SPIE events next year: Smart Structures and Materials & Nondestructive Evaluation and Health Monitoring in March in San Diego, California; and Photonics Europe in April in Brussels, Belgium.
