Optical physicist Michal Lipson (Cornell Univ.) has won a 2010 MacArthur Fellows grant, the MacArthur foundation has announced.
Through her work at "the intersection of fundamental photonics and silicon fabrication engineering," Lipson "has emerged as a leader, despite relatively modest resources, in designing optical and hybrid opto-electronic devices with silicon-based fabrication methods," the foundation announcement said. The technology has applications in optical information processing.
Lipson has served on several conference committees and published more than 20 papers with SPIE. She is author of a paper on "Controlling the speed of light using resonators" scheduled for presentation at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, next January.
