In memoriam: Hyatt M. Gibbs, optical sciences professor

Hyatt M. Gibbs passed away on 3 September 2012 after a long illness. Gibbs, 74, was professor emeritus of optical sciences at the University of Arizona, before retiring in 2011.

Gibbs' research concentrated on optical physics, including femtosecond spectroscopy and the molecular beam epitaxy machine. He presented papers at several SPIE events, including 2012 SPIE Photonics West, where he authored "Terahertz-induced optical modulations in quantum-well microcavity."
