SPIE Fellow Khan Iftekharuddin, Khan Iftekharuddin photonew director of the Vision Lab at Old Dominion University (ODU), said in a recent interview that he is excited about opportunities for the university to collaborate on imaging advances with NASA Langley, Department of Defense and other agencies.

Vision Lab researchers focus on developing new algorithms and architectures for real-time applications in the areas of signal processing, image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and biologically inspired object recognition, the interview noted.

Iftekharuddin has chaired conferences on Optics and Photonics for Information Processing and on Photonic Devices and Algorithms for Computing at SPIE Optics + Photonics for many years, and has taught professional development courses and served on conference program committees at SPIE events.

He is the author of nearly 50 journal and conference proceedings articles in the SPIE Digital Library, and a paper to be presented at SPIE Medical Imaging in February, on "Information theoretic multiclass feature selection for improved pediatric brain tumor segmentation."
