ICO officers Maria Calvo and Gert von Bally congratulate SPIE Photonics Europe grant winners

Researchers Marembo Claver Karemera, National Univ. of Rwanda, and Artsrun Martirosyan, Institute for Physical Research, Armenia, winners of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) Marembo Claver Karemara and Maria Calvotravel sponsorship for SPIE Photonics Europe in Brussels 12-16 April, were congratulated at the meeting by ICO President Maria Calvo, Univ. Complutense de Madrid, and Associate Secretary Gert von Bally, Westfälische Wilhelms-Univ. Münster.

Karemara is doing work on the application of digital holographic microscopy to identify the presence of malaria.

Martirosyan presented a paper at Photonics Europe on "Radiation of difference frequencies at optical rectification of spatially limited femtosecond laser pulse in the periodically-poled GaAs crystal."Artsrun Martirosyan

Calvo is a Fellow of SPIE, and has presented at numerous SPIE meetings. Von Bally has published nearly 40 journal and proceedings papers with SPIE, and has served as conference chair and committee member for several SPIE events.
