L. Cary Gunn, co-founder and CTO of Luxtera, has been awarded an international prize for innovation in recognition of his work in the development of laser technology with specific advancements in silicon CMOS photonics. The award to Gunn of the Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis was announced 16 September by the German private foundation Berthold Leibinger Stiftung. Gunn is a member of SPIE and on the program committee for the Silicon Photonics conference at Photonics West.

Earlier this year, Gunn received the Adolph Lomb Medal of the Optical Society of America, given for noteworthy contributions to optics before reaching the age of 35.
