Alexander Cartwright named provost at SUNY

University of Buffalo Professor Alexander Cartwright, SPIE Fellow and vice president for research and economic development at UB, has been named provost and executive vice chancellor of State University of New York. A professor of electrical engineering and adjunct professor of physics, Cartwright has been at UB since 1995, and involved with SPIE since 1998. Cartwright is a chair of the conference on Nanoscale Imaging, Sensing, and Actuation for Biomedical Applications at SPIE Photonics West, and an author of numerous SPIE publications on nanobiophotonics, hybrid solar cells, nanoscale imaging, and other topics. He is an author of a paper on conventional and unconventional magnetic polarons to be presented at SPIE Optics + Photonics this month . Provost Charles Zukoski commended Cartwright, saying he "is a wonderful colleague, and because of his leadership we have been tremendously successful in integrating UB's research mission with the broader activities of the university and with our region's economic development efforts." Among other accomplisments, Cartwright was instrumental in securing $47.3 million in funding for the Genomic Medicine Network. |
