There's more than one way to teach students and actively engage them in the learning process, a fact that the Three Rivers Community College SPIE Student Chapter is well aware of. Enter their annual two day laser extravaganza, Laser Camp, which took place Wednesday 10 November. This half-day, student-run event hosted over 50 students from local high schools.
Laser Camp, led by SPIE students with additional sponsorship from the National Science Foundation and several other organizations, seeks to educate area youth on the concepts surrounding the study of light, lasers, and fiber optics. Comprised of six different educational activities ranging from laser engraving to nanotechnology to polarized light, art students are given a chance to supplement their high school curriculum with college level activities.
