SPIE cooperates with ReadCube to increase discoverability of content across web, desktop, and mobile platforms

Agreement will expand discoverability for more than 425,000 items

BELLINGHAM, Washington, and BOSTON, Massachusetts, USA -- SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, today announced an agreement with Boston-based publishing technology company ReadCube to enhance the content on the SPIE Digital Library via ReadCube's platform.

Used by more than 8 million researchers worldwide, ReadCube Discover will expand the discoverability of SPIE's 10 peer-reviewed journals, Proceedings of SPIE, and SPIE eBooks across its web, desktop, and mobile reading portals, search engines, and recommendation feeds. What's more, all SPIE Digital Library items will be enhanced with ReadCube's signature reading experience.

"SPIE values increased discoverability and accessibility to our unique content," said Eric Pepper, SPIE Director of Publications. "The more researchers, engineers, students, and scholars find and utilize this content, the greater its impact on scientific progress and education. We believe that working with ReadCube will further this key SPIE goal."

In addition to extending the reach of scholarly content, ReadCube Discover enhances it with valuable features, including hyperlinked in-line citations, annotations, clickable author names, direct access to supplemental content and figures, social sharing, and altmetrics. As part of the partnership, all the items in the SPIE Digital Library will be enhanced through ReadCube.
