CARDIFF, WALES, UK - 12 September 2008 - The European Commission's Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry is launching a series of finance workshops for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and a new magazine to help support business growth in the EU.
The first two EU Finance Day workshops will be in Berlin on 18 September and in Stockholm on 25 September, and are aimed at spreading the word about new EU financial instruments for SMEs, according to an article in first edition of the directorate's Enterprise & Industry magazine. The new magazine is published thrice-yearly and financed under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP).
Funding for SMEs is available within CIP, the Seventh Research and Development Framework Programme, and the Structural Funds, the Enterprise & Industry article said. "Given the significant role that over 20 million SMEs play in Europe's economy, and their equally significant social role as the largest source of employment in the EU, it is crucial to provide support to SMEs and entrepreneurs where this is needed."
