22 December: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued a Notice of Intent to Fund up to Two Institutes as Part of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI): NIST will provide up to a total of $70 million per institute over five to seven years; funding must be matched by private and other non-federal sources. 21 December: Results of the First Horizon 2020 Photonics and Organic Electronics Released: Fifty-Four photonics and organic electronics projects were funded under the first round of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 calls. Read More

21 December 2015: FY2016 Budget for NASA Grows 7.1%: NASA received a 7.1% budget increase along with spending guidance. The James Webb Space Telescope, nearly complete and scheduled to launch October 2018, received a 3.9% decrease. Read More

7 December 2015: America Moving Closer to Autonomous Vehicles: The Secretary of The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a Smart City Challenge that will award $40 million to an American city that displays data-driven visions for connected vehicles, smart sensors, and self-driving cards.
