Paper Abstract

A method for evaluating the imaging properties of film-screen combinations is described. This method incorporates Schade's noise equivalent bandpass, Ne, and Selwyn's concept of granularity into a figure of merit which can be derived from measurements of the sensitometric and frequency response characteristics of the system. Details of the techniques involved in obtaining the H F, D curve and MTF of the system are presented along with the formalisms involved in calculating Ne and the figure of merit.
