Self Calibration Techniques For High-Resolution Array Processing

Paper Abstract

Eigenstructure-based direction finding techniques are capable of resolving closely spaced sources, but are very sensitive to errors in the calibration of the array. A first order sensitivity analysis is performed to quantify this sensitivity. A self-calibration technique based on simultaneous estimation of the directions-of-arrival and of the uncertain array parameters is proposed to alleviate the problems caused by this sensitivity. The properties of the proposed technique are studied using the Cramer-Rao bound, and a class of practical joint estimation algorithms is presented.
