Paper Abstract

Coarse phase transmission gratings with symmetrical groove shape have found widespread use as 3-way beam splitters. Usually the light source is a laser and incidence is normal to the back surface of the grating. Theoretical energy distribution, especially in zero and first orders, is described for several of the most likely groove shapes.
