Paper Abstract

Multiphoton simple and double ionization of strontium was studied using picosecond laser light and electron spectroscopy techniques, under laser intensities ranging from 1011 to a few 1012 Simple ionization is shown to leave the ion in either the ground state or one of the lower-lying excited states. Two and three-photon resonances can occur in this process on intermediate states lying either below or above the first ionization limit. Double ionization is shown to be essentially a stepwise process.
