Paper Abstract

The time-dependent solutions of the mean-field Maxwell-Bloch equations for optical bistability are studied numerically for the deterministic equations and the stochastic equations with additional noise sources. From the solution of the deterministic equations a discrete, one-dimensional return map is constructed which proves the existence of deterministic chaos and shows that the Feigenbaum scenarium is valid. Inclusion of noise sources leads to destabilization of higher periodic solutions.
