Paper Abstract

A novel pupillometer for measuring the size of the human pupil using two orthogonal, linear, self-scanning photodiode arrays is described. A microcomputer compensates for non-uniformity in the responsivity of the arrays and calculates pupil diameter. The instrument is accurate to better than 3% of full scale reading. Alignment with the eye and focussing are easier than with an earlier single array system. Infrared emitting diodes irradiate the eye and allow dynamic measurements to be made in total darkness.
