Paper Abstract

Aerodyne Research, Inc. (ARI) has shown that its own proprietary methods of statistical pattern recognition (SPR), operating on data readily obtained in real time by an image scanning system, are able to perform detailed pattern recognition and classification tasks. Specifically, using well defined and directly obtainable characteristics of typewriter characters, a technique is demonstrated that will allow rapid and objective association of typewritten material with the source typewriter. A generalization of this capability is also discussed.
