Paper Abstract

A microprocessor based low cost general purpose digital image processing unit is developed amenable for pictures upto 576x768 pixels. A video camera, a teleprinter and a TV picture tube are interfaced to the system. With the use of timer and associated devices, a columnwise sampling is adopted to reduce the speed requirements of A/D. The image memory is organized in four files enabling faster readout to meet the CRT refreshing rate. The system can handle any image processing task suited for still pictures and accepts programs written in machine language for the 8085 CPU. Out of a number of software developed, edge detection, pixel population variation and meansquare error computation are dealt here.
