Paper Abstract

In the construction of several new quantitative microscope systems we have developed techniques for the measurement and calibration of spatial resolution, image sampling densi-ty, signal-to-noise ratio, photometric response, and shading. The approach makes use of several commercially available test specimens, a test slide that was specially developed, and a number of algorithms to provide calibration of the complete system from the input specimen to the stored digital image including optical, electro-optical, analog, and digital sources of signal degradation.
