Paper Abstract

Ultrasound signals scattered from human tissues contain a wealth of information about tissue properties, in addition to morphology. The range of that information is explored here, and it is demonstrated that processing techniques to extract data about tissue crystallise into three categories: pulse-echo imaging, quantitative imaging, and tissue characterisation. The last may be subdivided into parameter estimation, structure characterisation, and dynamic methods, and a succinct and critical review of current techniques is made.
