Novel design for high-production-yield and high-efficacy large-area OLED lighting panels

Paper Abstract

Organic lighting-emitting diode (OLED) is one of the most attractive technologies for next generation light source due to its merits of good color rendering performance, diffuse area light source and high luminance efficiency. Despite its strong potential as a large-area planner light source, light emitting area of one OLED lighting panel has been limited because of high sheet resistance of transparent conductive electrodes and high risk of electrically short defects. In this paper, we demonstrate a novel design for large-area OLED lighting panels with low electrode resistance and 100% short reduction to achieve high brightness uniformity with low power efficiency loss and high production yield at the same time. In addition, total light output of OLED lighting panels can be further enhanced by applying an internal extraction layer between transparent electrodes and glass substrate.
