Development of a compact frequency conversion module for airborne countermeasures

Paper Abstract

We report on the development of a compact frequency conversion module (FCM) devoted to IR countermeasures. Several spectral lines are emitted simultaneously by the use of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) pumped by a high repetition rate near-IR pulsed laser. A special attention has been paid on the optimization and the miniaturization of the FCM optomechanical design. The proposed compact design increases the alignment stability of the OPO cavities and in the same time facilitates its integration. Moreover, we have developed two-zone temperature controlled ovens enabling thermal management of the periodically poled nonlinear crystals. With proper adjustments of the applied temperature gradient, we have demonstrated that a significant improvement (more than 30 %) of the conversion efficiency can be obtained.
