Numerical analysis and experiment research of cylinder valve port cavitating flow

Paper Abstract

Cavitating flow can result in annoying, unbearable noise and high vibration, and reduce the mechanical efficiency. Thus, monitoring of cavitation is of economic interest and is very important in industry. This paper performs the simulation of cavitation flowing through valve port. The flow is turbulent, incompressible and unsteady. The results show that flux is the main characteristic in valve chamber, and separation phenomena occurred at valve ports and some vortexes formed in chamber. In addition, further studies show that caviatation region is affected by some parameters such as different pressure across the port, the dimension of valve opening and so on. Then, a flow visualization cavitation experiment of cylinder valve is developed. The dimension of valve opening is adjusted by using linear stepping motor. The upstream and downstream pressures are measured by using pressure transducers. Cavitation images are captured by using a high-speed camera.
