Real-time generation of infrared dynamic sky scene

Paper Abstract

In this paper we propose a real-time infrared sky image synthesis model based on atmospheric optics, infrared physics and hardware acceleration techniques of computer graphics. We can real-time generate infrared sky image at different time and from changing viewpoint realistically. In our model, we first establish an infrared image synthesis for clear sky. Then we determine the infrared radiation and distribution of stars in the sky at given time and location. Based on infrared star catalogue, we propose a new rule to determine the infrared star magnitude in the given infrared receiving waveband. By series of coordinate change, infrared star distribution in the sky at given time and at given viewpoint can be drawn. Total IR radiation of the cloud includes IR self emitted radiation of the cloud, IR reflected radiation from the surface of the earth and IR sun radiance are calculated. Using the particle systems, the cloud is modeled and it can be rendered on a series of dynamically image planes. Finally by adopting the hardware accelerating techniques of computer graphics, the infrared dynamic sky scenes could be successfully drawn in real time.
