Paper Abstract

Elimination of cumbersome luminescence background has always been the matter of great concern in Raman spectroscopy. Various techniques have been explored so far to solve this problem. The gated detection method,1 non-linear Raman spectroscopy including coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering2 (CARS) and inverse Raman scattering3 (IRS), near-infrared excited Raman Spectroscopy with an FT Spectrometer,4 and the transient optical depletion method5 have been proved to be partially effective for suitable specific applications. However, an all-round and decisive method is yet to be developed. In this paper, we demonstrate (1) good-quality spontaneous anti-Stokes Raman spectra are obtainable by using a highly-sensitive multichannel Raman spectrometer, (2) a high luminescenceelimination efficiency is attainable in the anti-Stokes spectra, if the exciting laser wavelength is properly chosen, and (3) by applying the second laser field at the Stokes Raman wavenumber, the anti-Stokes signals are markedly enhanced through what we call partially coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (PCARS).
