Combination morphologies in sculptured thin films

Paper Abstract

We derive the equations describing a sculptured dielectric film with simultaneous chiral and nematic features, and solve analytically a special case where these features are present symmetrically and with equal periods. A number of interesting and novel features emerge, including a handedness reversal of circularly polarized light outside the Bragg regime.
