Paper Abstract

The Damped Least Squares (DLS) optimization algorithm plays a useful role in the design of multilayer optical coatings. It does, however, require numerically well-behaved error terms and the convergence is highly dependent on the degree of non-linearity present in the error term chosen. This paper makes some recommendations for the choice of error terms for effective control of phase-dispersion in dielectric mirrors.
