Paper Abstract

This paper summarizes advancements in ruggedization and miniaturization of high performance Retinal Scanning Display (RSD) Systems. This paper focuses initially on the photonics subsystem, which has been reduced to less than 4% the size of earlier versions. The paper then presents successful results of environmental testing on critical components of the photonics subsystem to demonstrate the system enhancements in optical modulation, fiber coupling and color combining. This paper also reports success in environmental testing of the color combing modules, which proves the viability of this critical component and sets the stage for future environmental qualification of the RSD systems in military and other environmentally stringent applications.
