Paper Abstract

This paper examines the development of electronic imaging standards by and for the graphic arts industry. Taken collectively this body of work is referred to as Digital Data Exchange Standards (DDES).

Because these standards are being driven by market and user requirements there are several fundamental guiding principles to their development.

This paper examines these and provides an overview to the technical developments undertaken by the accredited graphic arts industry standards committees to date.
