Paper Abstract

The distorting effect of the atmosphere on the results of monitoring of small-sized temperature anomalies (hot objects) using AVHRR/NOAA satellite measurements (third channel, 3.75 micrometers ) is studied through numerical simulation with the actual data on meteorological parameters of the atmosphere and geometry of satellite observations for Tomsk in May-September 1999. The following results were obtained for the third AVHRR channel: (a) statistical data on variations of the characteristics of upward radiation as applied to the Tomsk Region, (b) estimates of the distorting effect of the atmosphere on the results of reconstruction of hot object radiance, and (c) the dependence of the solar radiation scattered by the atmosphere on the geometry of observations and aerosol characteristics.
