Paper Abstract

A working prototype of a 3-beam overwritable magneto-optic (MO) disk drive with instantaneous read-verification is developed for high-speed file backup. The drive has two optical head and three optical beams so that it can be used with an ISO standard 130-mm diameter MO disk. Write- once optics were applied to the erasing and writing optical systems and high transmission efficiencies were obtained for the laser power in order to achieve 5400 rpm recording.
