Paper Abstract

The paper integrates the virtues of thresholding and region growing, and utilizes gray frequency distributing and local spatial information to segment image simultaneously by multi-gray-character(multi-dimensional histogram). The technique researched in this paper was found on the model that multi-dimensional histogram of an image that fits multi-dimensional gaussian-mixture-distributing. The paper derivates the parameters formulations of gaussian-mixture model based on maximum likelihood estimate, then the bayes discrimination rule guides the segmentation result. The theoretic analysis and experiment indicates the new technique overcomes two main shortcomings of the existing similar techniques.
