Paper Abstract

Geometrically stable resonators with diffractive output coupling through a 'dot mirror' are attractive because of their simplicity, good beam quality and enhanced mode volume. The original study addressed the case of high output coupling suitable for high-gain media. In this paper we study the characteristics of the dot mirror output coupler with a Fresnel number in the range from 0.1 to 0.3. The theory is tested in two CO2 lasers, a TEA and a fast transversal flow. The measured beam diameter and effective reflectivity agree well with the computed values.
