Paper Abstract

A design of two-cell SBS pulse compressor with polarizing pumping source was proposed for a high power KrF laser with pulse energy of 200 J and pulsewidth of 200 ns to compress it to approximately 5 ns and achieve high beam quality by SBS phase conjugation techniques. Possibility of doing this is numerically investigated to our knowledge. Our 1D SBS amplifier numerical model employed is similar to those described by Daijun et al. with a little modification. This model is then used for calculating pulse compression of above described KrF laser. Calculations were carried out with SF6 as SBS medium under various conditions. The results of calculation show that output Stokes pulsewidth of approximately 5 ns is attainable with energy reflection of 30% approximately 50%. There exists optimal meeting time between pump and Stokes seed for definite cell length. A relative low gas pressure or pump intensity is appropriate for compressing 200 ns pump to approximately 5 ns Stokes output and good pulse shape.
