Nb-doped Bi12TiO20: crystal growth and characterization

Paper Abstract

Bi12TiO20 crystals doped with Nb atoms ranging 0.05 - 0.2 wt.% are grown from non-stoichiometric melts by modified Czochralski pulling technique. Doping studies showed that Nb5+-ions occupy tetrahedral sites in sillenite lattice. Experimental results on spectral dependent characteristics, such as, absorption, photochromic effect, photoconductivity and electrooptic efficiency are presented. Comparison with similar properties of Bi12TiO20 crystals doped with another pentavalent atoms (V,P) is discussed. A relationship of these characteristics with local structural defects in doped Bi12TiO20 lattice is proposed.
