Optical properties of some polyphenylenvinylene

Paper Abstract

Poly(2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-p-phenylenevinylene and copolymers with fragments of 1 ,4-phenylene , 1,4-naphthylene, 9, 10-anthrylene and model compounds is one of the most interesting polymers, which have a high third-order non-linearity optical activity. We have investigated spectral luminescent characteristics (absorption, excitation and fluorescence spectra) ofthis compounds. The quantum chemical calculation of electronic structure model compounds were carried out in an AM1, PM3 approximation. It was founded the relationship between the structure of polymer and its spectral -luminescent properties and shown that creation intramolecular hydrogen bond and intermolecular complexes such as excimer - dimer plays significant role in formation of electronic structure polymer and consequently their non-linearity optical activity.
