Distributed video server using a new striping technique

Paper Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new striping control technique for a distributed video server that makes it possible to provide a large number of video streams and enables system scalability. This is based on three key techniques: (1) multiple access using time-slot sequences that each server module controls independently to reduce the communication overhead between the modules and to shorten the response time, (2) load balancing using replicated segments to provide video streams without interruption, and (3) logical server modules and disks which makes it possible to manage carious types of server modules and disks uniformly. Simulations confirmed the superiority of our technique compared to other proposed techniques. We also built an experimental systems. This experimental systems also confirmed the effectiveness of our technique.
